First Of All, Obtain The DESIRE

So, you really need to ask yourself two solid questions here:

  • What do you want?
  • How much do you want it?

And you need to know the answers to these questions. If you don’t know the answers, you aren’t going to know what you’re shooting for. You must have a passion for the desired goal you wish to achieve.

For example, I have the desire to make money with honey next year. (Hee hee). I love beekeeping. But how much money do I want to make next year? I need a number to shoot for so that I can maintain that desire. If I have no idea, then I will be going in blindly.

So, let’s say I want to make $100 in honey sales next year. My goal has a good number in place. I know EXACTLY what I will be making. I know my budget and I will meet this goal. This desire is the first step. I will not fail because I want it.

Having a clear desire in place will help you to stay focused and set achievable goals to meet next year. Here’s a SMART way to write goals you can count on.

Next, Think SMART

To set achievable goals, you must learn how to write them. I suggest following a SMART system. SMART is an acronym for:

  • S – Specific (or Significant). Based on your clear desire.
  • M- Measurable (or Meaningful). Reason for having a specific number in place.
  • A- Attainable (or Action-Oriented). We’ll talk about this one in a minute.
  • R- Relevant (or Rewarding). Reason for setting this goal.
  • T- Timebound (or Trackable). How long you’re giving yourself to reach this goal.

A solid goal should include each of these SMART factors in them. So, here’s your example:

By the end of 2021, I will profit $100 in the sales of my farm fresh honey. I will achieve this by caring for my bees through the winter, providing ways for them to make the honey, extracting quality honey from the frames in the summer and selling the honey to my waiting list at an affordable market price.

Notice that my goal has a plan. Let’s talk a little bit more on plans in the next section.

Then, Make A Plan…See It Through

Ahh…Plans. They were made to be broken. So, why follow them?

Because they are a path you must follow when you set achievable goals. Your goals are your journey towards that desire which will make you a better person. It will help you gain traction towards your ultimate life you’re creating for yourself.

So, how do you make a plan?

Well, after you’ve written your desired goal, you must set up milestones to achieve in between. These are the little things you will achieve on your way to achieving that BIG goal.

For example, my plan for making money with honey involves keeping the bees alive and healthy through the winter months. This can be a difficult task depending on weather. So, I set up smaller plans for success that involve:

  • Feeding them through the winter so they don’t starve.
  • Making sure their hives stay moisture free.
  • Completing hive checks on warm days.
  • Setting up windbreaks to protect them from drifting snow.

Bees are mainly on their own through the winter. But these are just some little things I can do to help keep them from disease and starvation. So, if I can keep all three hives alive through the winter months, I’ll be well on my way towards my set achievable goals of maintaining healthy hives and making money with honey.

And I will definitely celebrate short-term victories each time I visit the hives and hear them buzzing softly inside all warm and snug.

Also, Embrace Short-Term Gains

Short-Term gains are stepping stones towards the success of meeting your set achievable goals. If your goal is to lose weight like the majority of the world, you’ll definitely be excited when you meet your goal of weight loss each month.

And you should embrace the little things. Because that is what will keep you going towards your main desire.

Yes, there will be set backs. But, don’t ever quit. Keep finding those small victories and stay on the path. Stick to your plan. You will find success through the good decisions you make. And if those decisions are made with the end goal in mind, then they will be worth the pain.

Make Good Quality Decisions

How will the decisions you make affect your goal? There are a few things to keep in mind when making good quality decisions:

  • Budget – Make sure this decision will not hurt your budget towards your set achievable goals. Decision should help you reach your goal.
  • Longevity – Decision must have a positive affect on the ability to reach your set achievable goals. Look far ahead into the future. Try to vision this.
  • Ability – Do you have the ability to use the investment or decision you’re making to it’s fullest? If not, maybe it’s not the right time to be making this decision.

If the decision is something that can help your goal but you aren’t good at it, you might consider hiring someone to do it for you. Really think about the positives and negatives before you make a decision.

Think about what is at stake. Remember: You’ve claimed stake on the desire and made a plan of attack. If this decision does NOT align with your plan, do not follow through.

Talk Yourself Into Believing It

Because there will be times when you don’t want to do it anymore. You won’t want to get out of bed when it’s cold outside to get to the gym. I could lose an entire hive of bees tomorrow. How devastating!

But, the hope is that there’s always tomorrow. There’s always roadblocks. And there’s ways to overcome them and still meet your goals.

For example, I can still meet my goal of making $100 because I set achievable goals. Keeping my goals attainable will help me to stay positive if tragedy does occur. And, I’ll still manage to make money with the two other hives according to my budget.

It’s all about your mindset staying positive. And one of those ways to keep your mind positive is to convince your sub conscience mind. Here’s how you can do that and push negativity out the door:

  • Say your ultimate goal out loud each day. Morning & Night. Let it be the first thing you think of in the morning and the last thing to think of at night.
  • Announce to yourself your plan to set achievable goals each day. Out loud. I’m not kidding – This really works. It will be so convincing.
  • Finally, always focus on those small goals for each day or week. How will you work on achieving your small milestones?

These methods of mantra will help your mind stay positive through any setback. Because a positive mindset will help you move mountains

Maintain Your Positive Mind

This is the secret to achieving your goals. Your mind rules the way you think. It rules the way you act. Actions speak, so let’s get our mind’s straight and narrow. Here’s how to do this:

  • Surround yourself with people who have the same set achievable goals. This could be running groups, beekeeping groups, etc.
  • Find a mentor nearby to help you. Local is always best. Do what they do.
  • If you can’t find a group, start one yourself.

You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with ~ Jim Rohn said this. And it’s so true. Associating yourself with likeminded positive people will help you set achievable goals and meet them in no time.

But negativity will always make it’s presence. Here’s some tips on how to avoid negativity.

And Avoid Negativity

There will be naysayers. People who tell you that you can’t. Avoid them at all cost.

But maybe it’s your partner. Your best friend. Your soul mate. Well, if they really are all of these things rolled into one, they would see your desire and support you in your quest for change. Ugh – How frustrating!

Well, there are some ways to change the thinking of someone you care about enough in your life to keep them:

  • Talk to them. Explain why your desire is what it is.
  • Show them. Action means a lot. Explain your plan and HOW you will reach your set achievable goals.
  • Prove it. Again, action is key. Let them follow your progress and allow them to join in with you.

And if your care factor for this person is low, then lose them. Or if they won’t change and encourage you, then lose them. Sorry to be blunt, but you really don’t need that kind of negativity in your life. Especially when looking to set achievable goals for yourself. Because it’s YOUR LIFE – Not their’s.

Don’t let someone’s negativity rub off on you and ruin your success. Either make them support you or leave them in the dust. It will be worth it in the end. Trust me.

Avoid Instant Gratification

Please do not purge on something just to get instant gratification. This goes back to decision making. Make decisions that will have a positive effect on your goal.

If your desire is to save money and grow your savings account, wouldn’t splurging on a new wardrobe kind of be wrecking that? For one thing, if you knew exactly how much money you would be saving and how much you’d be growing, your mind would probably realize that this is not a good decision for you to be making.

Because this decision is hurting your goal. Consequently, not helping you reach your goal of saving money. Maybe the SMART decision in this matter would be to know how much you COULD spend on a clothing. Probably buy just a few things according to your budget based on what you NEED.

Hence, instant gratification is not the way to go. Reward yourself, but don’t go big. Don’t make a decision that will wreck your goal. Stay on your path. Look at your schedule and recite your plan when you feel the need for instant gratification.

And your schedule is the best way to keep you on track! So, here are some tips for scheduling time towards your goals.

Finally, Schedule Some Time

Everyday, you should dedicate some time and effort towards achieving your goal. This is part of the pact to set achievable goals. There must be some time involved in achieving them!

But you’re already SOOO busy. Well, the truth is that we all are. And if you want to reach achievable goals badly enough, you will find a way. So, a little bit each day is the way to go.

For example, take weight loss. Therefore, if your desire and is to lose weight, you’ll need to have a diet plan and an exercise plan. Will you just eat good 3 of the days and exercise the rest? NOO!

Therefore, you want to make it a LIFE CHANGE. So, schedule time and meals for EVERYDAY. Meal planning and time for good workouts are critical in the quest to losing weight. Remember that an hour is only 4% of your day. You can do fit in your goals and achieve them if you stick with it.

Finally, take ownership and do it for yourself. Because you are the one who decided to do this. It’s time to finally achieve what you set out to do. Make this next year YOURS!

In Conclusion, Make It Your Year to Set Achievable Goals

So, I’ve given you 10 ways to set achievable goals this next year. And it seems like a lot of steps. But allow me to summarize it all for you:

  • Have a desire & passion for your set achievable goals.
  • Write SMART goals and have plan in place.
  • Schedule some time each day towards meeting your goals. It will soon become a habit and a LIFE CHANGE!
  • Make good decisions towards your goals. Avoid instant gratification.
  • Believe you can do it. Maintain your positive mindset by avoiding negativity and reminding yourself OUT LOUD each day that you can.

  • Love on those short term gains!

And, there you go. Now, that doesn’t seem so hard, does it? Are you ready to make 2021 your year?

This is extremely helpful. I've always thought that making a plan always help. I tend to also start my new year's resolutions before the year actually starts. It helps with keeping a momentum and creating a habit.
